John began his photography career in 1991 as a photojournalist for the North County Times (formerly The Blade-Citizen), where he photographed everything from Ross Perot to the San Diego Padres.
Feeding his entrepreneurial spirit, John went out on his own and became a versatile stock photographer. His work is still represented worldwide by Corbis Images and Superstock and has appeared in many well-known publications, such as National Gardening Magazine and Runner’s World. Some of his stock work was recently featured on Fox Television’s Fuel TV.
Seeking an outlet for his love of the unscripted nature of photojournalism, in 2001 John opened Schnack Studios, a boutique wedding photography studio specializing in creating wedding photo essays. In addition to venues throughout Southern California, John has been commissioned to photograph weddings in Hawaii, Mexico, Italy, Spain, Belize and Portugal.
In addition to numerous editorial displays of his work, John’s wedding images have graced the covers of San Diego Style Weddings and Better Homes and Gardens’ Simply Creative Wedding Flowers magazines.
A lifelong coastal North County resident, John is based in Carlsbad, California, where he lives with his wife and daughter. In his spare time, John enjoys spending time with his family and friends, surfing and paddleboarding.
