Had the unbelievable opportunity to photograph Terésa and João’s wedding in Lisbon, Portugal. Unlike my other destination weddings that involve U.S. residents getting married overseas, Terésa and João are Portuguese and actually live in Lisbon. I can’t begin to express the warmth and hospitality they showed me during my brief stay there. They showed me around, took me to dinner, and of course, were fantastic to work with on their wedding day.
Terésa and João’s ceremony and reception were held at the Kais Restaurant, which once housed a factory along the river in Lisbon. It was a civil ceremony and, interestingly, it is common practice in such ceremonies for the bride and groom to be seated. Once the ceremony was over, the guests were treated to wonderful meal and great wine.
Let me also add that the guests at the wedding know how to party. Dinner wasn’t finished until around 11 PM and dancing started shortly thereafter. I ended up leaving at 3:30 AM, but Terésa and João and their close friends didn’t leave until close to 7 AM! So, the fact that Terésa and João were actually conscious made their performance at our day-after shoot even more remarkable.
