Perry Family Portraits in La Jolla
On Tuesday evening I spent some time in La Jolla photographing the Perry family. The Perrys hail from Kansas City, MO, and are here on vacation enjoying La Jolla and points beyond.

The Moseley Family
I got an e-mail a few weeks back from Vanessa, the sister of my old roommate, about shooting some portraits of her family while they were vacationing in San Diego. It was a pretty dreary day, so I wanted to take them somewhere where there would be elements that would add some texture to the sky, and where I could light it to provide them with a look that was unique and wasn’t the prototypical “San Diego portrait”. I took them to one of my favorite spots, where the allowed us to get some really dramatic images.

Blast from the Past
As I look back on 2008, one of the little things I’ll remember about the year was my introduction to Facebook. At some point over the past year, I created an account but didn’t fill out any of the information. Nor did I upload photos, “poke” anyone, comment on someone’s status, or any of the other quirky little things that make Facebook so addicting.
Anyway, several months after I created my account, I suddenly received several e-mails of people I knew who wanted to be my “friend”. Curiosity got the best of me and now, as much as it pains me, I’m addicted to Facebook. The greatest thing about it, for me, is the ability to reconnect with all these people from high school–and even earlier in some cases–and answer that age-old question of “What ever happened to…”.
One of the people I reconnected with was Bret. Bret and his beautiful family live in Utah now and were in town visiting some family, so it was a great opportunity to reconnect and shoot some cool images of the family. It was a cold and blustery afternoon, but we had a blast and made some awesome images.

The Miserlis Family
Owning one’s own business is great. Aside from the obvious perks–working in boardshorts and sandals, listening to Howard Stern without fear of offending coworkers–one of the best benefits is being able to trade services.
Peter Miserlis is a kick-ass designer. He runs a great little design firm in Del Mar called Petro Design Co. He’s done some great work for me over the last year, and recently designed a direct mail piece for me. Instead of billing me, we thought it would be great to update the family photo and get some great stuff of his beautiful kids, Theo and Stefania.
